It's interesting that you'll notice these websites have a natural amount of traffic from people who already know of them through Branding.

High page rank makes sense because Google uses web traffic in its algorithms to give value. However, a non-branded website that is trying to enhance its search engine optimization-seo to rank on Google's search engine results pages-serp can rank without high PageRank value.

So, the homepage of a website that has no external web marketing will only drive web traffic through search engine rankings. This kind of a site should be careful about their links and where they point to.

So, what you are saying is that if you have 10 links, each one will get more ranking juice value than 30 links will because it is divided among the total?

Notwithstanding including a NoFollow of course.

this post gets me to thinking I might need to update a couple of my sites and add the no follow attribute so all the juice isnt getting sucked out. Until I get a lot more links like im sure Huffington post does its probably a good idea to use no follow where it makes sense

Thanks for the information. This topic came up recently when I was discussing a web page with over 600 links. My boss Arnie Kuenn found this post and referred me to it for back up of his recommendation to keep links at 100. After reading this it all makes perfect sense!
